中:我們已經決定好研究對象是木匾工藝大師黃耀如老師傅之後,我們團隊就計畫著要去採訪他,智尹老師說:要去採訪人家不是說去就去,一定要先自己找資料做些功課才行!到時候才不會問一些報紙上、網頁報導上…早就有人問過的事,這樣才不會對國寶大師「失禮!」,這是我們以後做研究都要放在心上的原則。
英:After determining that the target of our subject is Mr. Huang Yaoru, a grandmaster of wooden tablet craft, the whole team then planned to conduct an interview with him. Teacher Cheng reminded us that do not rush into meeting Mr.  Huang because it is impolite to ask information which have been reported in newspapers and/or webpages. It is a critical principle of research work for us in the future as well.

中:我們想到的方法當然就是靠「Google大神」來搜尋,最直覺的方式就是下關鍵字:黃耀如、南輝木匾、匾額、木匾…,很不巧,我們竟然搜尋不到什麼相關資料,這可出乎我們的意料之外,怎麼這樣從事木匾製作的老師傅,卻搜尋不到什麼資料,資料太多是一種困擾,但是找不到資料也很傷腦筋,我們對黃耀如老師傅可說是一無所知,只知是范韾文老師的遠房親戚,木匾做六十二年了,很厲害。
英:Our first idea is to fully exploit the function of Google Search and the most intuitive method is exhaustively collect keywords all we can imagine, such as Huang Yaoru, NanHui plaque, and plaque. Unfortunately, we failed to get any information of Mr. Huang Yaoru by Google searching and it is totally out of the blue.Why is there no information related to such a grandmaster of plaque? It would be somewhat bother with too much information or no information. The only clue we have is that grandmaster Huang Yaoru is Teacher Fan Hsinwen’s distant relative and he has been in the line of plaque making for sixty-two years and therefore is technically brilliant.

中:怎麼辦呢?我們團隊的隊長和副隊長決定,直接先去南輝木匾雕刻處問問看好了!連老師都配服她們二人的勇氣,敢這樣直搗黃龍,結果運氣很好,有人在家,隊長二人第一次接觸的便是黃媽媽,其實他早知我們團隊的來意(韾文老師有跟她提過),本來黃耀如老師傅很忙,從不接受訪問,看在我們是忠義國小來的,黃媽媽決定幫我們說說,給我們團隊專屬的研究機會。這天,我們便跟黃媽媽聊了很多老師傅的事,我們拿到一些資料打算回去跟組員們分享。
英:So what could we do? Our team leader and vice leader determined to directly go to NanHui plaque carving store for inquiry. Teachers admired their courage to rise to the challenge. We were so lucky that somebody is home and the one to receive the leader and vice leader is Mom Huang. Actually, she knew our intension because Teacher Fan has mentioned the project. Originally, grandmaster Huang refused to be interviewed as he is very busy. Because we are students of Jhongyi elementary school, Mom Huang agreed to explain some history to us so that our team can have the dedicated opportunity for more thorough investigation. On that day, Mom Huang told us many stories about grandmaster Huang and we brought some information back to share with our team members.

中:我們都覺得,要認真地研究一個人或一件事,真的是要用心的,否則輕描淡寫的帶過的話,可能無法抓住事情的重點,在我們看了許多黃耀如老師傅的資料之後,雖然我們都還沒和他碰過面,他可能也不知道我們想去找他聊天…,但是我們每個人卻對他都熟悉起來的感覺,而且心中也產生了許多資料中沒有看到的疑問…,像是八十幾歲了還在工作嗎?一個人真的能針對一件技藝鍾情六十多年,我們想知道他到底有沒有厭煩過呀!種種疑問就等著我們親自請教他囉!

英:We all think that it must be elaborative to earnestly investigate someone or something; hurried processing could result in missing the point. Though we have never met him and he might not know either that we would like to have a chat with him, we felt somewhat familiar with him after reading so much information about grandmaster Huang. Meanwhile we had many questions not solved by materials on hand such as “Does he keep on working even though he is on the wrong side of eighty?”and “Has he ever felt tired after working on plaque for more than sixty years?”. We cannot wait for asking him personally.
