Plaque Workshop- Nan Hui Wooden Plaque Carving Office
南輝木匾彫刻處，民國 48 年7月27日成立於友愛街，由黃耀如先生以3千元資本額一手打造，與3名員工一起營運，後來搬移店址到五妃街，員工大都為自己家人親戚，是臺南地區僅存一貫化木匾製作的的工坊。
Nan Hui Wooden Plaque Carving Office, established since July 27, 1959 on You-ai street, by Mr.Huang Yao, with NT$3,000 of capital, and 3 employees to operate, then moved to the Wu-Fei Street later, the staffs are mostly relatives of their own families, is an only one stop production of wooden plaque workshop in Tainan.

早期臺南地區有三大手工木匾製作的店，但隨著時代的演進，因為電腦科技進步的影響，老店傳到下一代，大都改變經營的策略，或者是沒人繼承而停止營業，唯獨「南輝木匾雕刻處」至今屹立不搖，創店者黃耀如老師傅雖已八十六歲高齡，仍持續親自製作匾額，各大精緻的匾額皆出自本店。
In early Tainan, there had three handmade wooden plaque workshops, but with the evolution of the times, because of the progress of computer science and technology, the old shop transited to the next generation, mostly changing the strategy of their business operation, or no one would intent to inherit these family’s business, they had to stop the business, but Nan Hui had been maintaining still, the founder Mr. Huang Yao Ru the old Master, although he has already 86 years old, still continue to make plaques manually, many fine plaques are made by their shop.
南輝木匾雕刻處的店位於窄窄的五妃街中段，這兒算是臺南市的古老街區，店面也不算寬大，雖有招牌，若不注意看可能不會特別注意到，店內並沒看到擺設匾額，反倒是有許多木雕的藝品，當我們團隊10人前去拜訪時，就差不多把店內給擠滿了，平時師傅們在自己的工作區工作，大都很忙碌，店面由黃媽媽打理，一般只接待生意往來的顧客，忠義國小的團隊因有特別的認識，得以得到特別的研究機會。
The shop of Nan Hui is located in the middle of the narrow Wu Fei street, which is an old district, the front door of the shop is not so generous, although there are signs, if you do not pay attention to see may not pay special attention to the shop, and will not realize the plaques, but there are many wood carving arts there. When our team of 10 people to visit there, we got crowed in the shop. The Masters usually work in their own work area, most of them are very busy, especially that Mama Huang takes care of all the tasks for the shop, and deal with all the requests from the customers. Our team really feel appreciated to get this opportunity to visit and do this special research with Nan Hui through the connection by Mama Huang.
店面裡可以看到許多奇木雕成的藝術品，原來這是黃耀如老師傅工作之餘的興趣，他還會去參考三義木雕街的作品，可見他對木雕真是情有獨鍾。
In the shop, we can see a lot of special wood carving arts, originally this is the interest of Mr. Huang Yao Ru, he will also reference to the work arts of wooden carving in a famous place San Yi in Taiwan, and obviously he has a great passion for wood carving.
南輝木匾雕刻處的工作場所並不是在店面，而是分散式的，平常只要走進店面後方的巷子 (玄良亭的巷口)，大都可看到黃耀如老師傅在工作，因為他可是全年無休的，這也是我們很配服他的地方！
The work place of Nan Hui is not only in one store, but also distributed in the long lane at behind of the shop (Xuan Liang Ting's Alley), and most of the time Mr. Huang Yao Ru is working in the work place, because he works really hard, and has no relax time, this is what we admire him so much!
那麼匾額作品都在哪兒呢？原來在店後還有一間專門放成品的倉庫，製作木匾這個行業與其他買賣不同，都是客戶訂了才做，可沒有那種先做起來放著的，很特別的是匾額做好了，顧客也不一定馬上拿走，因為送匾額或掛匾額可都要看時辰的，所以南輝還得要有個地方先保存這些客戶還沒拿的匾呢～
So where the plaque masterpieces are demonstrated? Originally the finished goods were kept in the warehouse just behind the shop, the wood plaque industry is different from the other businesses, wood plaques are all tailor-made, transacted by build to order and customer-made. They cannot be produced by mass production or keep in the inventory for selling. And specially that even the plaque has been completed and available, the customer may not necessarily to bring back immediately, because the delivery of plaque or hanging plaque will need to select a specific timing to do so. So, Nan Hui needs to have a place to keep those plaques that the customers haven't brought back yet.

黃媽媽說：南輝做的匾額這麼有名的原因之一是「貼金」的技術特別好，我們都只看到成品金光閃閃的，在哪兒做的呢？原來貼金的秘密基地就在店旁不遠的房子裡，是黃耀如老師傅女兒的(我們稱呼黃阿姨)家，由於貼金工序製作需要保持空間無風，也不能吹冷氣，所以平時門戶都是關著，角落寶寶團隊可是獲得特許參觀唷！
Mama Huang said: One of the reasons that Nan Hui could be so famous is their specialized "gold plating skill", when we only see the glittering product, do you know where it made? The secret base of this skill is not far from the shop, is home of Master Huang ‘s daughter (we call Aunt Huang), because the gold plating process needed to have a space without wind , also cannot has the air conditioning, so usually the space is closed, but our “Corner kids team” has this honor to visit there. Yeah!
金光閃閃吔！真的是用金子做的，哪來的本錢呀！是用金箔貼上去的啦！可是這也太難了吧！黃阿姨可以說是做這項工藝的第一人了，經過她的說明，我們知道貼金有分成純金箔貼的 (價格高) 和金色片鍍上去(較便宜)二種，可是我們實在看不出來，太厲害了！
See the glittering! All are really made of gold, such high cost ah! It's affixed with gold foil! But it's so difficult, isn't it? Aunt Huang is the first person to do this craft, after her explanation, we know that gold is divided into two kinds: pure gold foil (expensive one) and gold slices plated up (cheaper one), but we really cannot identify it, that's awesome!
南輝木匾雕刻處在黃耀如老師傅的經營下，全家人的投入，營造了臺南目前唯一一家能從頭到尾製作一塊木匾的店，我們覺得這是相當不容易的成就，而我們相信老師傅的努力及毅力成就了這一切。
Nan Hui is operated by Master Huang Yao Ru and run by his whole family, the only one-stop shop of wooden plaque in Tainan, productions from beginning to the end, until a finished craft good to be come out, this is really not easy to achieve, and we believe that Masters’ efforts and their perseverances to achieve all this.
